Three of us from the Duluth Rowing Club recently took a donated, broken, late-70's, vintage, coxed four built by Kaschper, and after a three month, twice-a-weeknight time in a heated, former high school wood shop, turned it into a triple. The bow had broken off in a collision, the splashboards and vee-board were rotted, knees and ribs broken, and the hull was moldy and full of leaves and dirt. The rebuild resulted in approx. 5' cut out of the hull and liberal use of West System Epoxy, some cloth, redesigned old sculling riggers, luan plywood, refinishing and re-using knees, ribs, and braces, and lots of intuition. Today, the newly reborn triple is the perfect shell for those days when it is too rough for a single or double; quads, fours, and the eight seats are spoken for, and an odd number is still standing at the dock, looking for something to row. It has been a great addition to our club! And to think it was once two pieces, overgrown with vegetation, sitting in an old farmer's field in Wisconsin, waiting for a new home.
